Reading Japanese Whisky Media
The same whisky story can travel through an official page, a press release, a news article, a retailer notice, and social media within hours. Media literacy means preserving the difference between those layers instead of merging them into one repeated claim.

Identify the role of each page
An official maker page is strongest for product identity, specifications, and the maker's own announcement. A press release provides distribution-ready wording and quotes. Journalism can add interviews, comparison, and independent context. A retailer page is useful for that retailer's display and conditions, not for proving the whole market.
Social posts can reveal timing and community response, but screenshots and reposts often lose dates or links. A monitoring record only shows that a public page changed or was detected at a particular time; it is not a timeless editorial article.
Trace claims backward
When several articles repeat the same sentence, look for the earliest attributable source. Check whether later pages add reporting or merely paraphrase the release. A large number of copies does not make the underlying claim more independent.
Dates matter. Announcement date, publication date, release date, application period, and page-update date can be different. Preserving those labels prevents a revived old story from being mistaken for a new event.
Separate confirmation from interpretation
Confirmation answers what the source explicitly states: name, producer, category, specification, date, or official theme. Interpretation asks why the event matters, how it relates to a lineup, and what uncertainty remains.
A strong explainer makes that boundary visible without burdening the top of the article with policy text. Substance comes first; source notes, limitations, and responsibility statements follow after the reader has received the useful information.
